How this engine is built

MeriKismat separates two layers that marketing pages usually fuse: ganita (calculation) and phala (interpretation). Only the first is scientific in the modern sense.

1. What is actually scientific

  • Planetary longitudes — celestial mechanics. This site uses Jean Meeus, Astronomical Algorithms (2nd ed.) for Sun and Moon, plus Keplerian elements for Mercury–Saturn, then subtracts Lahiri ayanamsa.
  • Sidereal zodiac — Lahiri / Chitrapaksha ayanamsa, the Government of India / Positional Astronomy Centre standard.
  • Panchang limbs — Tithi = (Moon − Sun) / 12°; Nakshatra = Moon / 13°20′; Yoga = (Sun + Moon) / 13°20′; Karana = half-tithi; Vara = weekday.
  • Vimshottari math — 120-year cycle, 9 lords, remainder of Moon’s nakshatra × dasha years, as specified in Brihat Parashara Hora Shastra.
  • Ashtakoota score — eight discrete rules on two Moon positions summing to 36.

2. What is traditional, not empirically established

House meanings, yoga phala, dasha themes, guna-milan verdicts and upayas come from Sanskrit horā texts. Controlled tests of Indian natal astrology have not shown predictive rules beating chance. Treat phala as a cultural decision framework, not physics.

4. Pipeline

  • Civil date + local time + timezone → Universal Time → Julian Day.
  • Tropical longitudes of Sun, Moon, five planets, mean lunar node.
  • Lahiri ayanamsa subtracted → sidereal longitudes.
  • RAMC + obliquity + latitude → tropical Lagna → sidereal Lagna.
  • Whole-sign houses from Lagna.
  • Nakshatra + pada; dignity; Vimshottari; rule-fired yogas; Ashtakoota.

5. Accuracy notes

Swiss Ephemeris is the professional standard. This browser engine is a Meeus-class approximation: Sun typically within a few arcminutes, Moon within about 0.3–0.8°, outer planets within ~0.5–2°. Enough for rashi/nakshatra in most modern dates; not enough to argue minutes of Lagna in a court of ganita.

6. Privacy

Birth details never leave this device. There is no account and no server-side kundli store. Clear site data in the browser to wipe the last chart.

7. Tarot (a separate language)

The Tarot table uses the 22 Major Arcana painted by Pamela Colman Smith for the 1909 Rider–Waite–Smith deck. Those images are public domain. Spreads and reversed meanings are traditional Western tarot, written in plain language — they are not Jyotish, not dasha math, and not a replacement for the kundli. If a chart is already on this device, the reading only names your current Vimshottari period so the two maps can sit side by side.

8. Jaap (a companion, not a pandit)

The mala screen is a japa counter. Ten classical names (Om, the panchakshari, Gayatri, Mahamrityunjaya, and others) are recited by a recorded clip on this device, with a temple bell on each bead. Speech synthesis is only a fallback. It is not diksha, not a live priest, and not a medical or financial remedy — just a way to keep count while you sit.

9. How every reading is written

Each topic is a short consultation in four plain lines, not a riddle. Life readings go current phase → core theme → what it means → guidance. Love, career, money, mind, family, timing, and cautions each have their own four-part shape. Tarot is the card → core message → in real life → advice. When a kundli is on this device, tarot also offers a combined note. Astronomy stays in the engine. Meaning stays practical. Neither is medical, legal, or financial advice.
